At 7:30am on June 10, as many people arrived at Moon Bay for the 2024 Jinji Lake Dragon Boat Race, Chen Ying, a young doctor from the Fourth Hospital Affiliated to Soochow University, had been standing by there with her colleagues and an ambulance. It was the first time for Chen to participate in the medical service for such a large event.
“I learned from my department that the event needed medical volunteers, and I said I wanted to do it,” said the girl.
Chen started to work in the hospital last August. She and her colleagues had made sufficient preparations for coping with any emergencies.
“At around 9:00am, we were informed that a racer’s thumb fractured. We offered first aid and then sent him to the nearest hospital,” said Chen.
Chen said she was lucky to partake in the event where she experienced the strong atmosphere of the Chinese Dragon Boat Festival and gained an inspiration from the perseverance and teamwork of the racers.
