Over 30 students who are from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan and studying in Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) participated in the learning tour on May 15 to gain a better understanding of traditional Chinese culture.
The students first visited Zhencaitang K’o-ssu Museum where they learned details about K’o-ssu, a traditional technique in Chinese silk tapestry.
The students then visited Yao Jianping Embroidery Art Museum where they viewed an array of embroidery works closely and gained a good knowledge of Suzhou-style embroidery master Yao Jianping’s contributions to the inheritance and innovation of traditional embroidery techniques.
The students also visited the Cai Yundi Sculpture Museum which houses over 200 stone, brick and wood carving works by Cai Yundi, a Suzhou-native sculptor.
Then, the students sampled delicate Suzhou-style square cakes at Jindi Garden Hotel, and tried to make such cakes following a chef’s demonstration and instruction.
