“Chicago”, a Broadway musical that has been honored with 6 Tony Awards, 2 Olivier Awards, a Grammy and thousands of standing ovations, is scheduled to be performed at Suzhou Culture and Arts Centre, SIP five times from Dec 5 to 8.

Set amidst the razzle-dazzle decadence of the 1920s, “Chicago” is the story of Roxie Hart, a housewife and nightclub dancer who murders her on-the-side lover after he threatens to walk out on her. Desperate to avoid conviction, she dupes the public, the media, and her rival cellmate, Velma Kelly, by hiring Chicago’s slickest criminal lawyer to transform her malicious crime into a barrage of sensational headlines.

Premiered in 1975, the show amazes audiences with hilarious lyrics, delicate performance, the ups and downs of the story, and sexy and lively music. Its stage manifests the concept that “l(fā)ess is more”, with black as the dominant color.

The performances are coupled with a series of activities for the audiences to get closer to the performers and know better about the show.
