A row of boats set off on Yangcheng Lake on Sept 25 to harvest the first batch of Yangcheng Lake hairy crabs of this year. Despite the impact of the typhoon that hit the area in the middle of this month, about 650 tons of crabs are expected to be harvested in SIP this autumn.
The crabs are mainly raised in a 5,000-mu (over 300-hectare) breeding area in SIP’s Weiting Sub-district, where hundreds of households farm crabs.
SIP Economic Development Committee and other authorities have offered the households support in raising high-quality crabs, including inviting experts to give them training on scientific crab farming and marketing.
Moreover, the Qianshuiwan Business Street in the sub-district has been decorated to highlight cultural elements related to crabs. It is a good place to enjoy authentic Yangcheng Lake hairy crabs.
