Jinji Lake Scenic Area, a 5A-class national scenic spot in SIP, was honored one of the “Quality Sports Tourism Destinations in China” at the 2024 China Sports Culture Expo & China Sports Tourism Expo held in Suzhou recently. It is the only recipient of the honor in Suzhou.
The scenic area hosts a list of sports events that attract a large number of tourists to SIP each year. These events have offered the participants opportunities to learn about local culture and enjoy wonderful tours.
The Suzhou Jinji Lake Half Marathon, initiated in 2010, is one of the most anticipated events in the area. Tens of thousands of people, including expatriates from different countries and regions, participate in it each year.
The Jinji Lake Dragon Boat Race, held in the area annually since 2010, is one of the “Quality Sports Tourism Projects of China” recognized by the Sports Culture Development Center of General Administration of Sport of China.
The Lake Cup Regatta (LCR), initiated in 2011, has become a brand event in SIP. It has been included in the “List of Regattas in China” and honored an “Excellent Mass Regatta” by the Chinese Yachting Association.
The scenic area has been making great efforts to improve public facilities for sports lovers. The Jinji Lake Fitness Trail was put into use in 2018 for sightseeing, physical exercises and recreation.
Running around Jinji Lake at night has been made interesting by the interactive lighting system installed at three running paths near the lake in June. A runner can scan the designated QR code with his or her smart phone to enter the online intelligent night running system and establish a Bluetooth connection with the lighting system. Then, as the runner runs, the lights along both sides of the paths will change colors according to his or her speed.
The Suzhou Jinji Lake International Golf Club was selected as one of the Top 100 Golf Courses in Asia in the 2022 joint evaluation by Golf Travel China and Golf Travel Korea last year.
There are also excellent facilities for water sports, extreme sports and recreational sports in the area.
